She enrolled in the Seattle Film Works Self Study Course in Photography, and some years later took courses at the Ottawa School of Art in Basic Darkroom Photography, Digital Photography, Photo Editing, Photo Composition and Portfolio Development.
In the summer of 2004 and 2005 she studied life drawing at the Ottawa School of Art under the visiting Australian artist Marcello d'Amico .

Some additional information
Photographs are extensively manipulated and textured to express Iris' view of the subject matter. Due to her knowledge of photo manipulation, Iris is able to restore the beauty of old photographs and combine various photos in one image, either by composition or collage.
Many of her artistic renderings are suitable for framing or printing on canvas. Iris uses these images also to have calendars, greeting cards and postcards made, as well as journals, light-switch plates, ceramic tiles and ceramic tile boxes .
